The Location

Cloistered in Kea’au on Hawaii’s big island

While just 15 minutes from Hilo, Lokahi Temple feels far from civilization. Set amongst three acres of jungle a half hour from an active volcano, the creativity and vitality of this part of Hawaii is palpable. Frequent rains keep it lush and generative.

About

Events organized by the Temple itself are donation-based. Participants pay what they want or can. We are inspired by Charles Eisenstein’s writings on “sacred economics” and the gift economy. To “live in the gift” means that offerings are made with no expectation of return.

Lokahi Temple is a gathering space and a 501(c)(8) non-profit church. Lokahi Temple LLC is a subsidiary partner of the Lokahi Institute LLC, both incorporated in Hawaii.

Lokahi Institute is a nascent collaboration between Tam and UC Santa Barbara. It will eventually include a Hamakua Coast campus for advanced academic research into topics such as human consciousness, wellness, meditation, green building, and shamanism.

Tam Hunt is the primary founder and owner of Lokahi Temple.
